Happy New Year Friends -

Just a quick note here with some updates from the Little Beirut world. We’re still working hard on new material – writing, revising, recording demos, exploring sounds, pedals and gadgets in an effort to see where the muse will be taking us for the next record. And interesting, often disparate places it seems to be going. Why don’t people do double albums anymore? Maybe that’s what we need… Anyway, things always have a way of taking longer than anticipated in this process so we can’t predict exactly when we’ll release whatever this becomes, but we can say for sure that we’ll start the recording this year.

Our next Portland show will be on February 24th at the Star Theater, opening for The My Oh My’s CD release party (Redray Frazier also playing). This will be a great show in a pretty styly new venue – we hope to see you there!

On a final note, we’ve got some fun free downloads for you. Our friend Timmy, from the awesome Ellensburg, Washington band, Tyrannosaurus Grace, has done a couple of remixes for us. He’s twisted Last Light and Cosmic Waitress off of Fear of Heaven into some pretty slammin’ dance floor grooves. Check them out here.

Was it a good year for ya? Well it’s about over. We have one last show, just post Christmas, and we want to see you there. We will be debuting several songs from the new record we’re hard at work on.

Hey peeps – wanted to give you all a  brief update on what’s been going on with us recently:

After playing a bunch of shows this winter/spring in Portland and Seattle, we decided to take a short break from booking to concentrate on new material. We upgraded our recording setup at the rehearsal space, so we’ve been recording ideas right left and center and seeing what sticks. We’ve got about 16 new songs we’re working on in various states of completion, but we’re pretty excited about the many different directions things seem to be going in. 2 of these we’ll debut at our next show.

That show is Friday, May 27^th at Backspace. We’re playing with our good buddies in Western Family, and Grandparents. We’re going to be opening the show, so make sure you get there early. This is an all ages show, but also has a full bar for 21 and over. Love the all ages thing – there isn’t enough of it around in my opinion. So bring your babies and kids!!

Tonight at 9:00, 10:00, 11:30, and 2:00AM (eastern time) Crooked Crown – the closing track on Fear of Heaven is going to be played on MTV’s The Real World: Las Vegas. We’re super happy about this because we’ve been working on a bunch of licensing opportunities and now we’re seeing this come to fruition. Check it out!

Other upcoming shows are June 18^th at Skylark in Seattle and August 26^th at the new McMenamins place, the Crystal Hotel. But we have some others in progress so we’ll update you when more summer shows are finalized.

The summer’s flying by too fast, and that’s sad…but here’s what’s not: we are getting so so so ready to roll this new record out in style. We’ve got a few related shows coming up soon to promote Fear of Heaven that we’d love to have you all check out:

Monday August 23rd at 6 pm – Live in studio performance at KPSU. Will be broadcasted live at 98.1 FM and via online streaming at www.kpsu.org. If you miss it, check the website because all shows are archived and downloadable.

Saturday September 4th at 9 pm – CD RELEASE SHOW AT SECRET SOCIETY – our big party for the Fear of Heaven release at this fantastic new Portland venue so don’t miss this one! We’ll be playing lots of the material off the new record, a couple new covers, and some old classiques. Expect a couple of guest performers. The awesome Hello Morning will open. Another special guest TBA.

Thursday September 9th at 6pm – In store performance at Music Millennium – Come browse for vinyl or discs at Portland’s coolest independent music store and pick up ours while you’re at it. We’ll serenade you in the process. Thinking we’ll play acoustic for this one.

Welcome to Portland, John Hulcher (and his lovely wife Emilie)!! For anyone curious as to why we’ve gigged so little in the past year and a half, it’s all because we’ve had a prolonged ordeal finding the right bass player. Well that’s over now – we’ve found the right guy, and the Little Beirut lineup has finally been finalized. We’ve actually known this since a rainy evening back in January when Mr. Hulcher, in response to an ad we posted, flew up from San Franciso where he was living at the time and demanded that he be our bass player (and after a couple of notes we weren’t disagreeing…). But we had to WAIT SIX MONTHS before he actually moved here. The wait, while totally worth it, is thankfully over. Last night’s rehearsal kicked ass, and the three of us are soready to not be a bass-less 3 piece any longer. We’re ready to play out!!!

We’re finished with our first proper video, courtesy of stop motion animation maestro David Emmite of local company, Parlor Flick. We were super lucky to work with someone this talented; David also did all of the artwork for Fear of Heaven, some of the imagery of which appears here in the video.
